Meinhardt Branig and David Gollasch had the opportunity to participate in an exciting episode of the podcast “Autismus to go.” This educational podcast from the Berufsbildungswerk Hamburg explores a specific topic related to autism in each episode—a subject that is also at the core of our research project.
“Autismus to go” provides a platform for sharing knowledge from various perspectives—both external and internal. The podcast is primarily aimed at employees of the Berufsbildungswerk Hamburg, who have the opportunity to earn a training hour by listening to the episodes and completing a multiple-choice test on Moodle. For all other listeners, the podcast offers “nice to know” knowledge.
In the podcast episode, we discussed the challenges autistic people face in the workplace and how our project can help break down barriers and better utilize the diverse potentials of autistic individuals. A key point of our discussion was the need to create working conditions that meet the needs of autistic people. Current workplaces are often designed around the needs of neurotypical people, which can pose barriers for autistic individuals. We emphasized how important it is to create inclusive workplaces that also consider the heterogeneous needs of autistic people.
Our conversation on the podcast was a great opportunity to present our project to a wider audience and to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities in the work environment for autistic individuals. We look forward to continuing to work on developing solutions that promote the participation and self-determination of people on the autism spectrum. We thank the Berufsbildungswerk Hamburg for the invitation and look forward to future collaborations and engaging discussions around the topic of autism in the workplace.
